Rebecca Anne Withey is a freelance writer with a background in Performing Arts & Holistic health. She trained in classical ballet, tap, jazz, Latin American and ballroom dance since the age of three and has a BA honours in Professional Dance Studies. 

Her television career began in 2004 when she was cast in BBC 1’s Grange Hill as sixth former Holly Parsons. Since then she has enjoyed an active film and television career, starring in numerous short films, dramas and even comedy sketch shows. She was awarded the title of Best Actress for her role as Sarah in Life Out There  by Soleil film festival, Spain. She also starred in the award winning drama Tree Fairy as the title role and enjoyed numerous comedy parts in Deaf Funny, which was named Best Programme at Deaffest Film Awards 2019. 

Rebecca is a published poet and freelance writer. In 2011 she was selected as one of the top 10 writers for The Sun newspaper’s Column Idol contest. She has been an active writer since then, with regular articles published on The Limping Chicken.

She recorded and published the first deaf musical production by an all deaf cast in 2013. The release of See You in the Sky was a first for the British deaf community and was featured on BBC Midland news. 

As a sign singer, Rebecca has performed at theatres across the country and for musical artists. She starred in Tom The Lion’s music video for Silent Partner as well as appearing on stage with Gypsy Hill.  She worked for Sky 1 on their show Sing It: Ultimate Acappella, providing sign songs for artists The Vamps, Midge Ure, Gregory Porter, JP Cooper, Imelda May and more. 

As well as performing she offers tuition in performing arts and also provides consultancy to theatre and arts companies – big and small – on accessibility so that they can be inclusive to deaf audiences. Past collaborations includes work with Fierce (Birmingham) Scuffed Shoes Theatre (Leicester) Red Earth Theatre (Derby) The Wild and the Innocent and The Royal Exchange Manchester. 

Her holistic practices and qualifications include Mindfulness, Professional Relaxation Therapy, Crystal Therapy and Reiki. She delivers Mindfulness tuition in the form of guided BSL videos.

  1. Hi Rebecca, I was excited to see your post. It came up as a suggestion for me. I’m AD at Cre8 Theatre and we are putting together a theatre production featuring deaf and hearing artists. Profiling deaf artists on main stages in central roles in Northern Ireland. It would be good to connect with you in steps towards forming our production. Would you be interested in exploring this?
